Road safety week 2025

This week is the UK's biggest road safety campaign, Road Safety Week, a huge talking point in sharing crucial lifesaving advice and advocacy for safe roads for drivers.

The nationwide campaign, launched by Brake, a road safety charity, aims to shine a light on the risks facing drivers whilst educating young people, communities and organisations on road-smart driving. Reminding those of the responsibility that lies with being behind the wheel.

In 2024, there were a total of 1,671 deaths on UK roads and a further 28,804 people who were seriously injured as a result of road collisions. Speeding was the leading factor in road safety deaths. With five people dying daily on UK roads, charities are calling on drivers to take care on their journey.

Brake believes that "every crash is a preventable tragedy. We believe in a world where no one is killed or harmed on a road. Safe vehicles can help us get there…"

A new theme is set annually, with this year's being: Safe Vehicles Save Lives. Brake wants to bring awareness to how safety features in cars can prevent crashes. Automated driver assistance features include lane keeping, speed control, and emergency braking, which can all help prevent crashes from occurring. With cars now having the technology to alert emergency services when a crash occurs, leading to lives being saved.

Once a year, more than three thousand schools, organisations and communities educate everyone on the importance of driving safely.

The charity also hosts a Big Tea Break fundraiser, which it hopes to raise money to support the campaign to end road death and harm and support families bereaved and seriously injured in road crashes. 

From the 16th - 22 nd of November marks Road Safety Week 2025, with the week commencing with World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on Sunday 16 November.
